CJMP, 90.1 FM in Powell River, BC, is a community radio station whose license is held by the Powell River Community Radio Society, incorporated in July 2009.
The new board of directors for the Powell River Community Radio Society (PRCRS) was acclaimed on November 10, 2011:
- Tony Colton (President)
I’m really proud to be working with such a great bunch of people that see the importance of community radio and independent media. I’m a carpenter, by trade. My wife Meghan I and discovered Powell River on our honeymoon and never left. My favourite thing about Powell River is the people! And when the sun shines on the water and it looks like the sea is covered in diamonds. This is my second year on the Board of Directors. Hope to see you at the Prom or one of the many other great CJMP sponsored events coming up this year!
- John Silver (Vice President)
My wife, Alexene (you can find her and her art at Studio 3 on Marine Avenue), and I moved to Powell River from Vancouver in February 2006. In my previous life I was a dentist, teaching full-time at UBC for 25 years and then, for eight years, was Deputy Registrar at the College of Dental Surgeons of BC, the body that regulates dentistry in BC.My great non-professional interest is classical music, especially opera, although I hasten to add I am merely an enthusiast, certainly not a performer. I presented a weekly opera program on the community radio station that preceded CJMP and, depending on when you are reading this, have or will have two classical music programs on CJMP – “The Opera Hour”, devoted exclusively to opera, and “The Great Composers”, offering just about all other forms of classical music.Having seen the near demise of community radio in Powell River, I am in awe of those who rescued it by forming the Powell River Community Radio Society and then poured themselves into getting CJMP on-air. It is an honor to be elected to the Society Board.
- Angela Lafortune (Operations Director)
- Daniel Adaszynski – (DJ Zynski) – (Secretary)
Joined the board in March of 2012. He is a ne’er-do-well that does alright. A 22 year old anarcho-taoist and attempted feminist; he often wonders how he got donations to develop community maps – or woke up on the board of the 1st student housing co-op to be launched in Canada in 40 years.
Daniel has formal education in Aboriginal and Canadian history, Urban Geography, Anthropology, Entrepreneurship, Cartography and International Development. He has a small business manufacturing canvas for artists and earns most of his bread by working as a Cobbler at Pagani’s; there’s a bunch of other stuff but you’re probably busy! You can reach him anytime through dan.zynski@gmail.com

- Courtney Harrop (Volunteer Engagement Director)
